Telephony Earth Station (TES)

The TES QuantumTM is a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) that provides full mesh voice, fax, and data connectivity and high-speed digital applications among multiple remotes within a satellite network. This product features seamless integration with the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and with all Hughes Network Systems' Telephony Earth Station (TES) products. In a TES Quantum network, all the terminals can communicate directly with any other terminal. The TES Quantum offers single-hop operation providing fast call setups, toll-quality voice, high-speed fax interface, and high-speed data connections. The TES Quantum is able to make intelligent routing decisions based upon traffic loads with advanced DAMATM technology. Connections are established on demand to conserve satellite space segment. International standard 8 Kbps ACELP voice encoding (ITU-T G.729) is used to further reduce space segment usage while providing the highest quality voice connection.

PSTN Connectivity
TES Quantum operates within the public telephone network using R1, R2, SS5, DTMF, and dial-pulse signaling. Other signaling protocols can be optionally offered. TES Quantum's Toll-Ready feature set includes automatic number identification, line testing, local emergency numbers, and pay phone operation.

DialWareTM software allows the TES Quantum to intelligently interpret any local numbering plan. This flexibility extends from direct handset connections, to private branch exchanges, to gateway systems for an entire public calling office.

Digital Trunking
TES Quantum is able to accept a T1 or E1 trunk without the need for external interface equipment. The VSAT looks at the individual timeslots on the trunk and routes them accordingly. TES Quantum accepts and processes digital signals, then delivers them to locations equipped with the appropriate digital or analog equipment.
